Crystal learned how to paint at the age of 13 and has focused on this medium, although she has always been intrigued by engraving. She learned to paint under Donna Ambers. Crystal has also dabbled in wood carving, learning from Leonard and AJ Scow, who are accomplished and patient teachers. In 2009, Crystal graduated from Vancouver's Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts program under established Haida/Kwakwaka'wakw artist, Dan Wallace.
