Nytom is the Indigenous name of Northwest Coast artist John Goodwin. Nytom means ‘He Who Walks Around’. Nytom apprenticed with famous Nuu-chah-nulth artist Art Thompson in the late 1970s. He started his career making limited edition silkscreen prints but then branched out to sculptural work and hand-engraved jewellery. In the early 1980s, Nytom started a textile printing company that provided original designs and products for various community events. The company grew into Deeah Screen Prints which later became Designs by Nytom. He now resides in Sequim, WA.
