Margaret August is a Two-Spirit, Coast Salish artist from shíshálh nation. They were born in 1983 in the traditional unceded Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories. Margaret began their artistic journey at a young age, influenced by artists such as Susan Point, Mark Preston, and Butch Dick. In 2011, Margaret began showing their work in group art shows, and in 2017 they received a one-year Emerging Artist project grant from the People's Cultural Council. Margaret apprenticed under fellow Coast Salish artists Mark Gauti and Dylan Thomas.
