Other Jewellery

A wide variety of materials are used for adornment amongst First Nations cultures here on the West Coast. While sterling silver and gold are popular, there is a long history of British Columbia’s Indigenous cultures using organic materials such as wool, wood, and bone to create jewellery as well. Silver and gold were introduced to the Pacific Northwest through trade and mining, but the First Nations that have occupied this land for millennia created objects of adornment from materials found here naturally.
