Jim Yelton is mostly self-taught, although he did receive some assistance in the beginning from his father. He started to carve at age twelve. Throughout his career, he has worked with Coast Salish artists Floyd Joseph, Marvin Baker, Eric Baker, and Tony Yelton. He is well-known for his detailed talking sticks and bold carvings. Jim currently lives in Sechelt, BC.
