In my painting practice I have represented the psyche reflected upon natural landscapes. Within these spiritual landscapes the sea has come to be the unconscious or dream world while land masses are the conscious or waking life.

I have drawn fascination with animals that exist “in between” these realms of existence. Animals such as the beaver, frog and otter that possess the ability to navigate between these worlds.

This painting symbolizes a balance and union between inspiration and creation. It is about finding grounding to bring dreams into being and to manifest the mind, while not being carried downstream by lofty dreams. For me, the otter also embodies the aspects of grace, play and joy found within creation.
