Rupert began carving wood in 1992, and has worked with Kwakwaka'wakw artists Wayne Alfred, Vince Shaughnessy, and Shawn Karpes. In February of 2008, Rupert graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Program at the Native Education College in Vancouver, which was led by Haida/Kwakwaka’wakw artist Dan Wallace.
