Renewal - Acrylic on Canvas
24" x 30"
2015
I was inspired to imagine an energetic process of rejuvenation and decay, more specifically in regards to fossil fuels.
Condensed, combustible material is unearthed and ignited to fuel life. While it is true the novelty of this technological age has resulted in unprecedented connectivity, this has come at great cost to the environment. Rendering land barren and hostile to all life forms, while also threatening loss of culture and tradition of the people home to these lands.
The frog represents a metamorphosis towards sustainability; aided through this process by teachings of indigenous land based knowledge. The integration of inherent wisdom within the land marks an inside out transformation. The internalization of respect for these teachings can change how we see the world and in turn how we chose to create the world which we chose to live in.
I have also chosen to represent plant material as a metaphor for the self generating energetic capacities available here on earth.
