Justice is Anishinaabe Ikwe from Sagkeeng First Nation on her mom’s side and Chinese on her dad’s side, and she grew up in Surrey, BC for most of her life. Her artistic career began in grade 11 with encouragement from her fine arts and photography teacher Christina Mears at Tamanawis Secondary School. She is primarily self-taught and has grown as an artist with the help of family and people she has met in community. The greatest influences on Justice’s work are her family, community, and the little things she comes across in everyday life. She views being an artist as a gift she gets to share with the world. To her, painting is ceremony, it is spirit work. Each piece she creates is medicine that finds the person or place that needs it the most.
