Jim Edenshaw belongs to the Raven clan. He began carving in 1979 at the age of twenty-four. While he started carving and designing in wood, he was attracted to jewellery, and moved to Vancouver in the mid-1980s. In Vancouver, he was influenced by a number of artists, and became well-known for his works in silver and gold. In the mid-1990s, Jim became deeply involved in the Haida Gwaii Council, and political issues pertaining to the Haida.
