While Henry McKay is mainly a self-taught artist, he worked with carver Mitchell Morrison during the beginning of his career. He started to carve wood in 1975 with his uncle, Patterson McKay. Henry has been making and painting his own drums since 1983, and his skills as an artist are extremely diverse. He is the father of Matthew and Sandi McKay.
