Jerry Smith is a Hereditary Kwakwaka’wakw Chief, artist, and carver whose primary medium is wood. He was born to Betty and Jacob Smith in December 1941 and raised in Alert Bay. His brother, Russell Smith, was also a prominent artist. Some of his artistic influences include Doug Cranmer and Larry Rosso. In addition to working as an artist, Jerry has also worked as a fisherman and logger. Jerry assisted Bill Holm in restoring a plank house at the Pacific Science Centre in Seattle, WA in 1970. Currently, Jerry resides in North Vancouver, BC.
