The movements of his dance and the words of his song subtly suggest the source of his power: his guardian spirit. In keeping with Coast Salish guardian spirit tradition, the bird is rendered ambiguously to protect his power and leaves the specific species up for interpretation by the uninitiated.”

lessLIE began studying Coast Salish art in 1995 while working on his Bachelor of Arts degree in First Nations Studies at Malaspina University-College. He is currently working on his Masters of Arts within the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at the University of Victoria. His main influence has been Susan Point, but he was first encouraged and inspired by his cousin, Joe Wilson. Other immediate influences include Manual Salazar, Maynard Johnny Jr, Shaun Peterson, and Luke Marston.
