In addition to being trained artistically as a carver, Justin Rivard is a trained jeweler. He first starting working in the Northwest Coast style under First Nations artist Ray Dumont on Vancouver Island, and he started creating jewellery in 1986. He is dedicated to applying his skills to new and unconventional forms, while using the same media of gold, silver, and semi-precious stones. For example, Justin has created carved business card holders, lighter covers, and cufflinks. In 2012, Justin created a box for Lattimer Gallery’s Annual Charity Bentwood Box Event, which was one of the most successful boxes that year. In 2014, Justin was asked by international design firm wings + horns to complete a set of ten limited edition cuffs to celebrate the company's ten year anniversary. These limited edition cuffs sold out in less than one week. In 2019, he was featured in the landmark publication Understanding Northwest Coast Indigenous Jewelry by author Alex Dawkins.
