Jimmy Pitooloosie began carving in 1988. He is the son of artist, Joanasie Pitooloosie, from whom he learned a great deal of carving techniques. His uncle, Nuna Parr, is also a well-known stone-carver. Jimmy most often depicts polar bears in his works, using soapstone and serpentine. They are frequently poised in motion, representing the reincarnation of a human spirit within the animal form.
