Jim Charlie's crests are Bear and Killerwhale. He is a self-taught artist. In addition to the work that he sells to galleries, he has also been commissioned by various companies and organizations to complete projects for them, such as the Cape Group and University Canada West. Beginning in 2007, Jim began experimenting with casting, and has recently created several cast pieces in copper and sterling silver, the designs of which originated from Jim's small-scale wood sculptures. Jim created a hand-carved baptismal stand in 2020 for St. Catherine’s Anglican Church (Capilano) in Edgemont Village. In 2026, Jim created a prominent public art installation at the newly revitalized Britannia Village in Britannia Beach, BC. It features two distinct components: the Copper Man Mask and the Salmon People cedar triptych. Jim collaborated on a series of feather carvings for the new St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver as well.
