CULTURAL GROUP:
Tlingit

BIRTHPLACE:
Yukon, Canada

Jean Taylor is a Tlingit painter from the Yukon. She has been interested in art since she was a child, however this interest became secondary to making a living and raising a family once she reached adolescence. In 2001, Jean felt a renewed passion for art which led to her studying pencil sketching, watercolour, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, and oil mediums with various mentors, both one on one and in short courses. In 2005, Jean's painting "The Coffee Club" was chosen in the Peace Liard Regional Juried Art Show and her painting "Cowboy's Repose" won third place in the Peace Hills Trust National Art Competition. Her favourite subject to paint is people living life, especially those of her Tlingit culture. A second favourite subject is the scenery around her home on Teslin Lake.
