Isaac Hans was k’ils xaaydagaay (peninsula town people), born in Ḵ'uuna Llnagaay meaning "Village at the Edge" or Xuuajii Llnagaay, meaning "Grizzly Bear Village". He moved to Skidegate at a young age and lived there for most of his life. He is most known today for his cedar and argillite carvings. Isaac taught and encouraged his son, Tom Hans, in the art of argillite carving when he was 13 years old. Tom became one of the most prolific argillite carvers living in British Columbia.
