“The idea of this box is old Salish designs meeting the new. Four copper whorls and one copper Salish weave with a Thunderbird on the lid. The acrylic paint represents the patina of copper. I have never really been comfortable replicating old designs, although I have been asked several times from clients and galleries to do traditional whorls. It wasn’t until I was brave enough to attempt some complicated designs in jewellery, inspired by historical goat horn bracelets, that I considered doing traditional Salish designs in wood.”
