Jacob George

CULTURAL GROUP:
Tsleil-Waututh

BIRTHPLACE:
Tsleil-Waututh Reserve, North Vancouver, BC

Jacob has been passionate about the art of carving since a young age, when he watched his uncle Mark George skillfully carve a totem pole. He says that carving provides a form of expression and connection to his culture, allowing him to tell stories, preserve traditions and honour ancestors. With each piece of art he creates, he holds a special connection to the creator. Before beginning a project, Jacob takes a moment to pray and seek guidance and knowledge. For Jacob, carving has become more than just a hobby or a skill. It is a way of life, a journey of self-discovery, and connection to his community. He is honoured to be able to conribute to the preservation and revival of his cultural heritage through artwork.
