"On some masks I carve, I have a very clear idea right from the start. On others I open myself up to what the piece wants to happen. To me this way of carving is much more personal. It honors the connection between the carver and the spirit realm. A much respected friend once said “All carvers are mediums and through them pass the images and ideas directly from the spirit world”. This piece is like a visiting ancestor. His face was revealed to us as a gift. The darker half of the mask represents past experiences that intermingle with the lighter half representing the future, the present being represented by the fine lines between, which is ever moving and changing. The Copper eyes represent the prosperous and abundant times we are living in today."- Lyle Campbell, 2007
