x̱eyt te x̱a:ls (Xa:ls Transformed It)

"In a time when the world was really young, Xa:ls travelled around to make things right. He travelled through Coast Salish country teaching the people how to thrive by transforming some of our ancestors into the things we use today such as the cedar tree (xpay), salmon (Sthéqi), sturgeon (Skwó:wech) and many other gifts that we still use today. He also left lessons for us by transforming some of our ancestors into stone. The transformer stones are left as reminders for us all and each one has a different teaching behind it.

During some of Xa:ls travels, he took the form of four bears called Xexa:ls. These bears, 3 brothers and 1 sister also taught the people gifts and Xa:ls would return in his natural form and make sure the people were utilizing these gifts.

This box has elements of Xa:ls on the lid surrounded by the spirals of time as his lessons have been left for our people for time immemorial. The box itself has the four bears carved around it. Inside the box you will find a rock as a reminder of all these lessons and this rock stands as a reminder to invest in our youth."
